FAQ
What are your influences? TOP I am influenced by a lot of things. I find other artists to be a huge inspiration, they allow you to challenge yourself, your skills and come up with new ideas. Mythology and fairytales are a great foundation, which I recommend learning about if you love fantasy art, and is something anyone can find inspiration in. I am inspired by my friends and family to improve and push myself to the next level.
Do you have any art training? TOP I do have art training. I took AP (Advanced Placement) art in high school which allowed me to build a portfolio and be graded by Princeton. This encouraged me to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts majoring in Drawing, at the University of Regina. I found this to be very important to my overall education in art. It was very challenging in art history, art criticism and artistic abilities. I was disappointed to find that fantasy art and the magical are not acceptable in this learning environment. This forced me to focus on art history and Post Modern art. It was a challenge to move past the things I loved and learn things at the time I felt weren’t necessary. I was able to find myself as an artist outside of fantasy. I highly recommend taking art schooling, even if it’s something you’re not interested in. It will broaden your horizons and teach you new skills, and help you to be more critical about your own art. This will help your art to Improve and challenge you to new levels.
What programs/tools/materials do you use? TOP Lately I’ve been doing a lot of digital art, but I started off in traditional art. For digital art I use Photoshop CS3 and occasionally I use Corel Painter X. I use a Wacom Intuos 3 for painting. In my career as a graphic designer I use CorelDraw 11 and 13. For traditional art I’ll use whatever I can get my hands on, but I prefer watercolor and oil paints. How long does it take to do a painting? TOP It depends on the painting and the materials I use. Digital art takes less time to do, but it allows me to add more details that people won’t notice, which is where I get sucked into spending unnecessary amounts of time. I can spend anywhere from 5 to 30 hours on a painting. I tend to lose interest if the piece takes too long. I work full time, so I only have so much time to paint outside of work. If I’m painting with traditional materials it takes me much longer as I need to paint layers and allow them to dry. I usually extend traditional paintings over a longer period of time, but do more than one painting at a time.
How did you learn digital art and where can I learn it? TOP I learned digital art on my own and with a lot of help from tutorials made by other artists. I hate to say the cliché, and what sounds like the most useless advice someone can give you. You learn by playing around in the program and learn from your mistakes. However there are some things you can do to make that learning process easier. There are many online communities that have tutorials and advice. I really like DeviantArt for the community aspect. Get involved, go on the forums and ask questions, no matter how dumb they may sound. You can search the site for tutorials; there is an amazing amount of information on there. There is also Elfwood, which has tutorials. Searching Google is also a great way to find help. Do you take commissions? TOP Yes I do, I am, however, selective on what I take as my time is limited. If you are interested please email me. Be sure to include your name and contact information, as well as your ideas, any specifics or deadlines. If you want to commission me I assume it is because you like my style of artwork, unfortunately due to time constraints I don’t have extra time to research or practice other styles.
Do you have any tutorials? TOP That is something I am currently working on. I hope to have a tutorial or two in the near future. If you have something you would like to see a tutorial about please email me, it might be the next thing you see. But I can’t make any promises. May I use your art for a tattoo? TOP Absolutely! I’m very honored if you feel my art is worthy enough to be permanently put on your body. But I ask that you buy a print of the particular art you will use so the tattoo artist has a good copy, this will help the tattoo artist to create a faithful replication and a better tattoo. Plus buying the print will help me to continue making more art for you to enjoy.
Please be sure you get the print and any copies, including the stencil that the artist made, as my art is copyrighted to me and I do not want it to be used for flash art for tattooing. I’d also appreciate it if you can remind the tattoo artist that this is not available for the general public.
And please email me a picture of your finished tattoo; I would love to see it.

If I buy a print or product do I own rights to it? TOP No you do not, purchasing a product does not give you any rights or ownership over the copyrighted material, those remain my rights. What if I see someone misusing your art? TOP Please let me know, I’d really appreciate it. The internet is so huge it’s impossible to keep track of everything, but if you can let me know who’s doing it and where that would be great. Just please do not contact that person yourself, this can create future legal issues. What is your image usage policy? TOP I do my best to offer variety and the best prices I can manage. Please remember that I am doing this to make a living outside of my regular job, and I love my art and want to share it with you. As a result I have to send my art out for other companies to handle. All prints can be purchased from this website, but are shipped out by a company in the states. By doing this you save lots of money on shipping and get better prices on the prints, if I do it locally and send it from my home, you would be paying double as it's comming from Canada. Limited edition prints, once available, are signed and do come from my home, as I'm sure you would like it signed and numbered. All jewellery found on my site is hand made and is shipped from my home. Any other products on here are through Zazzle and Cafe Press, again by using these companies I cut down on your total price by making production and shipping costs far less. Any questions or concerns with these companies should be directed to them, as they can help you much better. Why do the products have different size photos? TOP They products I offer come from different places, if you click on the image it will take you to 1 of the 2 stores I have. Cafe Press and Zazzle. What's the difference of Zazzle and Cafe Press? TOP
Zazzle and Cafe Press are 2 stores I have open that carry my products. This is the only way I can offer products at this time as I do not have the time to do all the work myself. The difference between Zazzle and Cafe Press is the products offered, they have very similar products and at the same time have many differences. Zazzle has more clothing options available, as well as different bags and key chains. The best thing about Zazzle is that you can customize and change the products offered at the product page. You can not combine purchases between the two companies, they are two seperate companies. I do my best to keep pricing relatively consistent, however the pricing is mainly set by each company. What's this great new offer? TOP I don't think it's fair to pay multiple shipping charges. So that is why I have a new offer. If you buy any products from my Zazzle or Cafe Press stores and would also like to buy prints which are only available on my website you will receive free shipping on the prints. Email me (hollys.art@gmail.com), tell me which prints you would like to purchase and what size, along with your shipping address. I will email you a total without the shipping prices and then you can pay through paypal. I'll also need to know what purchase information you used on Zazzle or Cafe Press so I can verify your previous purchase. This does have a time limit, you must order the prints within 30 days of your Zazzle or Cafe Press purchase. Ordering, are there things I should know? TOP
I do my best to show proper representation of the products available, however due to screen discrepancies, because of the calibration of the screen, the colors of the actual products may not be the same as the colors of the products shown on the website.
Only Jewellery is mailed directly from me. If you order jewellery and prints, they will not arrive at the same time, they will be shipped seperately. If you order a large print and a small print, they may be broken up according to size to help get them to you faster. What are the sizes of your prints? TOP My art often comes in all different shapes and sizes, for prints I will leave the white edges around the art if it does not fit properly on that size print. That way you have more options for framing. The prints typically will be 5” x 7”, 8” x 10”, and 11” x 14”. I can of course make larger prints, please contact me if you are interested.
